VISITOR OYSTER CARD BASICS
The Visitor Oyster card is the cheapest way to travel on London buses and tubes. Individual oyster fares are approx half the price of normal fares. When you tap the card on the oyster card readers at the beginning and end of their journeys, the cheapest fare between any two points in the city is automatically calculated. The card can be replenished using credit cards or cash once in London. The cards do not expire and are also transferable.
SAVE TIME WITH OYSTER 
Oyster is an electronic smartcard. It doesn't need to be removed from purses or wallets; instead you need to touch your card on the yellow reader to get through the Tube gates or board other services at the beginning and end of your journey. You must do this even if the gates are open or if you are using a side gate. At ungated stations you must always touch your card flat on the yellow reader on the validators provided. This ensures that the start and end of your journey can be recorded and the correct fare is deducted from your balance. If you do not touch in and out at the start and end of each journey, you may pay more than you need.
When traveling by bus, touch your card on the reader as you board, not as you leave.
When traveling by Trams, touch your Visitor Oyster card on the reader on the tram stop platform before you board.
