Panoramic tour (half-day; am or pm) $32.50pp – daily 9:15am or 3:00pm
Sightseeing tour through the most important and representative avenues, streets and squares of Madrid to admire its buildings and monuments. The oldest quarter with its densely built streets, constitute what is know as Madrid’s Seventeenth Century “Austrian” quarter where the austere exteriors of its palaces contrast sharply with their luxurious interiors. Eighteenth Century neo-classical architecture is splendidly represented in the Royal Palace, the Sabatini Gardens and “Campo del Moro”, the Alcalá Gate, Paseo del Prado and famous Cibeles and Neptuno fountains. Madrid most modern and avant-garde tendencies are to be found in its newer quarters, with their orderly street layout such as the “Gran Via” built early in the 20th Century, and the “Paseo de la Castellana”,in turn, which cuts across the city from North to South, is lined by boldly designed avant-garde buildings and crowned by the twin towers known as the Gate to Europe, which have come to symbolize modern Madrid. Duration of this tour: 3 or 4 hours.

Escorial & Valley of the Fallen (half day; am or pm) $77.50 – Daily except Monday; 9:00am or 3:00pm
Valle de los Caidos - Imposing monument built as a memorial for those who died during the Spanish Civil War. It is located on the Guadarrama Mountains in the province of Madrid. The enormous granite cross (150 m) rising high above the pine forest on the rock outcrop of Cuelgamuros, near El Escorial, is the most visible part of the monument. Built in the years following the end of the Civil War of 1936-39, in accordance with a project by Pedro Muguruza and Diego Méndez, it was decorated with monumental pieces of sculpture by Juan de Avalos. A great sepulchral Basilica is excavated into the living rock, and beyond, on a wide esplanade, stand the Abbey of Benedictine monks and other buildings, including the Library and Guest House. These fulfill the aims of this Foundation, which was created in 1957. People from both sides who fell in the civil war are buried in the Basilica. El Escorial- Has been declared a World Heritage Site, it was the political centre of the empire of King Philip II, where he built a great basilica-church and monastery, and organized his royal household and library. King Philip chose the site for the complex late in 1562, and the last stone was laid in 1584. The architects were Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera.

The Pantheon of the Kings is situated in a circular chapel directly beneath the chancel of the Basilica. It contains the remains of monarchs and of queens who were mothers of monarchs, from the Emperor Charles V to modern times. The exceptions are King Philip V and King Ferdinand VI, who are buried in their respective foundations of La Granja de San Ildefonso and Las Salesas Reales (the Church of Santa Bárbara (Madrid).

The mortal remains of other members of the Royal Family are buried in the Pantheon of Infantes. Duration of this tour: 4 or 5 hours.

Route 1 - Historical Madrid (75 minutes)
Philip III and Philip IV enlarged and embellished the city but the Bourbons brought new cultural and architectural tastes. It is to them Madrid owes the spectacular Royal Palace, the Paseo del Prado and the Puerta de Alcalá. A drive down the Gran Vía, the capital's most important road during the first half of the last century, gives us an insight into its unique architectural diversity and outstanding examples of the Belle Epoque, such as the Casino de Madrid and the Palace Hotel.

Route 2 - Modern Madrid (75 minutes)
The 19th century saw Madrid expand. The Salamanca neighborhood was built, a residential area and the site of the first bourgeois homes. The Paseo de la Castellana was developed, where the city's palatial mansions give way to modern skyscrapers of great architectural value, and which are a testament to Madrid's position as one of Europe's most cosmopolitan, attractive and modern cities.
