Itinerary
9 Day Itinerary for April through October 2010:
- Day 1 - Depart the U.S. for Italy.
- Day 2 - Amalfi Coast: Arrive in Naples, proceed to baggage claim and after clearing customs you will be met by the local Club ABC Tours representative and transfer by road to your hotel.
The famed Amalfi Coast or Costiera Amalfitana is a stunning coastline set along the rugged mountains and winds down the western coast of Italy from Sorrento to Salerno in the region of Campania. Many miles of hairpin turns offer spectacular vistas with changing views of landscapes, rocks plunging vertically in to the clear sea, charming fishing villages with brightly colored boats set in the small harbors, vibrant vegetation and colorful flowering plants, houses and hotels nestled high in the rocks above the winding coastline - all contrasting dramatically with the brilliant blues of the Mediterranean waters. Transfer to your hotel. A welcome cocktail and dinner are at the hotel. (Dinner)
- Day 3 - Amalfi Coast/Sorrento/Amalfi Coast: After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full-day excursion exploring the enchanting towns along the picturesque Costiera Amalfitana. We begin with Amalfi, which origins date back to both the Roman and Byzantine Empires. It once rivaled Genoa and Pisa in its maritime importance and still retains its fishing traditions today.
Transfer to Salerno pier and cruise to Amalfi. Visit the Old Town of Amalfi. Continue to Positano by boat and enjoy the coast from the sea. During the cruise, admire Li Galli Islands and the incredible cliff overlooking the deep waters. Arrive in Positano, and have a welcome drink on the beach. There is free time to explore the town and have lunch (on your own).
Continue to Sorrento by boat and visit the Sea Park of Punta Campanella where it is possible to see the last fishermen's villages on the coast with their typical boats, the ruins of the ancient Roman villas nested on the cliff and the unique view of Capri from the coast (in case of bad wheatear condition, the excursion will be arranged by coach). Upon arrival in Sorrento, transfer by private coach to the hotel. Tonight enjoy a Pasta dinner at the hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
- Day 4 - Amalfi Coast/Paestum: Today, take a half-day tour to the fabled ruins of Paestum. Rediscovered in the 18th century, the main sites of this ancient city are its three, excellently preserved, Greek temples; dedicated to the goddesses, Hera and Athena. Transfer to Villa Lupara to learn how to prepare Mozzarella Cheese and visit a typical Farm House. (Breakfast, Dinner)
- Day 5 - Amalfi Coast/Cetara: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Afterwards, you will meet your local representative. Cetara is the best kept secret of Amalfi coast. Still a fishermen village in a world famous area, Cetara is famous for his quite way of living and its genuine food. In the morning, visit a traditional market of Cetara to buy vegetables and fish with our chef. After, we will have a cooking demonstration in a old cloister facing the typical Mediterranean square of the town. After your lesson, enjoy for lunch your creation served with the ingredients bought in the morning. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the town on your own or take an optional extra cooking class to learn the secrets of the chef. Return to the hotel and overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 6 - Amalfi Coast: Today is a free day. You may choose to wander off on your own or take an optional tour to Capri, often considered Italy's most famous island. It has been a resort since the Romans and a favorite retreat for modern-day artists and movie stars. (Breakfast)
- Day 7 - Amalfi Coast/Pompeii/Naples: Visit of Pompei excavations. Transfer to Naples and have lunch in a Neapolitan Pizzeria. After lunch visit Naples historical centre. Highlights include: Naples old town, Posillipo, Piazza del Plebiscito, San Carlo theatre, Naples' castles. Enroute, stop in the most famous patisserie of the city to taste the world famous sfogliatella. Return to the hotel for some free time. This evening, enjoy a "Martini with View" served on the terrace of your hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 8 - Amalfi Coast: Today is at leisure. After breakfast, you may want to take an optional, full-day tour to Caserta Royal Palace, built by Charles III Borbon, during XVIII century to compete with Versailles and Schonbrun in Wien. The palace was the set of last Lucas' Stars Wars. Tonight, a Farewell Dinner in at the hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
- Day 9 - Amalfi Coast/U.S.: After breakfast transfer by road to Naples for your return flight home. (Breakfast)
