- Day 1 - Depart the U.S. for Japan.
- Day 2 - Cross the International Dateline and arrive in Tokyo, Japan's cosmopolitan capital city.
Upon arrival, claim your luggage and proceed to the Airport Limousine Bus counter located in the arrivals hall and exchange your enclosed pre-paid bus coupons for tickets. You can then proceed outside the terminal to take the bus, which can be identified by its orange and white colors, and will take you to the hotel. Please note: There will not be a Club ABC representative to greet you upon arrival at Tokyo airport.
One of the world's great cities, Tokyo blends the modern convenience of today's Japan with an exotic and colorful past. Tokyo is a sprawling city that boasts a population exceeding twelve million people, yet is easy to explore on the city's efficient and clean subways, trains, and buses.
- Days 3 & 4 - Tokyo: After breakfast enjoy a guided Tokyo Morning sightseeing tour which includes visits to Tokyo Tower Observatory for a panoramic view of the city and Tokyo Bay; Imperial Palace Plaza, the exquisite outer garden of the Empress Dowager's residence; and Asukusa Kannon Temple with its bustling arcade of souvenir shops. The rest of the day is free to explore Tokyo on your own. There are also a number of optional tours offered by Club ABC Tours to further enhance your Japanese experience. Perhaps visit the Ginza, one of the Orient's most celebrated shopping and amusement areas, or enjoy a quiet stroll through the beautiful wooded-grounds of Meiji Shrine. Early risers may be interested to check out the famous Tsukjii Fish Market, one of the largest in the world where fresh, gleaming fish are bid for by spirited fishmongers. Tokyo is filled with a wide variety of international cuisine. Be sure to try some local specialties at the noodle shops that abound the city. You can also experience a traditional Japanese dinner and a Kabuki performance, Japan's most celebrated stage drama, performed to the accompaniment of songs and music. Other optional tours include a full day tour to Nikko - "Think nothing splendid until you have seen Nikko", according to an old Japanese proverb**. (Breakfast)
**Please prepare an overnight bag (carry-on) for your stay in Hakone. Your luggage will be sent directly from Tokyo to Kyoto by road, as the Bullet train does not accommodate luggage.
- Day 5 - Tokyo/Mt. Fuji/Hakone: This morning drive to Mt. Fuji, passing through the picturesque countryside. Truly one of Japan's most famous landmarks, you will drive halfway up this majestic snow-capped peak for a visit to Mt. Fuji's fifth station. Afterwards, proceed to the thermal resort area of Hakone. Here you will enjoy lunch, a boat cruise on Lake Ashi, and an Aerial cable car ride up Mt. Komagatake. A delightful soak in the restorative waters is a popular pastime among the Japanese. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 6 - Hakone/Kyoto: Board Japan's famous bullet train for an exciting ride to the ancient city of Kyoto. Once the capital of Japan, Kyoto now remains its cradle of culture. With over 2,000 temples and shrines, this remarkable city houses many of Japan's national treasures, and is a favorite with both Japanese and international visitors alike. Transfer to the hotel in Kyoto. (Breakfast)
- Day 7 - Kyoto: Take a guided half day tour which features stops at Nijo Castle, a 17th century Shogun residence; and the Golden Pavilion, a beautiful three story temple covered with glittering gold foil. During your free time, you may choose to further explore Kyoto's wonderful treasures. Try a quiet stroll down the "path of philosophy," or perhaps shop for beautiful Japanese pottery on the street leading up to the impressive Kiyomizu Temple. Visit the impressive Kyoto Costume Museum for a glimpse of Japanese fashion ranging from the pre-Nara era to the Meiji period. In the evening visit the Gion, the nightlife area filled with restaurants, pubs, and shops. It is here that one might just catch a glimpse of a Maiko, or apprentice geisha, on her way to a teahouse. (Breakfast)
- Day 8 - Kyoto: Today you can explore this ancient city on your own, or enjoy one of the optional tours offered by Club ABC Tours. Perhaps choose an afternoon tour to Nara to see impressive Todaiji Temple, housing the world's largest gilded bronze Buddha, the vermilion-hued Kasuga Shrine and Deer Park, where over 1,000 gentle deer wander about. A favorite pastime is to feed them special biscuits obtainable at the park. (Breakfast)
- Day 9 - Kyoto/U.S.: Early morning transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Please note: Though rare, it may be necessary to substitute hotels and adjust itineraries due to local conditions. Included features may not be available on all departures.
