Departures: March 2010 - March 2010
Itinerary
- Day 1: Depart the U.S. for Italy.
- Day 2 - Montecatini: Upon arrival, proceed to baggage claim and after clearing customs you will be met by the Club ABC Tours representative. Transfer to your hotel. This evening, we will have an orientation, followed by a welcome cocktail to get better acquainted and discuss the itinerary for the week. For centuries, Montecatini has been an exclusive world-renowned spa resort, famed for its spring waters, thermal baths and numerous spa treatments. Over the next week you'll experience the local, simple but often hearty cuisine. Packed with flavor, it is based on peasant cooking that relies heavily on olive oil, tomatoes and beans. You'll learn how to shop for ingredients, prepare traditional dishes and above all, enjoy eating authentic and delicious food. Tonight dinner is at the hotel. (Dinner)
- Day 3 - Montecatini/Cooking Class/Lucca: This morning after breakfast, you will enjoy your first "hands-on" cooking experience of the Tuscan cuisine in a Tuscan Villa. First you will visit a local market to prepare for the lesson. Your chef Gianfranco will show how only the finest and freshest ingredients are chosen. After lunch, drive to the charming town of Lucca. Its peaceful narrow lanes wind among the medieval buildings, opening suddenly to reveal churches, tiny piazzas and many other reminders of the city's long history, including a Roman amphitheater. Lucca is well known for its magnificent 16th and 17th century ramparts, having remained intact, encircling its narrow streets, which are lined with many medieval buildings. Dinner is at the hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
- Day 4 - Montecatini/Chianti Region wine tasting/Montecatini: After breakfast at the hotel you will start to full day tour of Chianti Region. The beauty of this territory, known for its wineries, lies in the perfect equilibrium between the soft forms of slopes and the thousand nuances of color and the crowded woods populated by ancient castles, secular parishes and beautiful villas. You will visit Greve in Chianti. You will have wine tasting & light lunch at Verrazzano. Dinner is at the hotel. (Breakfast, Light Lunch with wine tasting, Dinner)
- Day 5 - Montecatini/Cooking Class/Pisa/Montecatini: After breakfast, you will enjoy your second cooking experience of the Tuscan cuisine. First, you will visit a local market to prepare for the lesson. Return to the villa and have your second cooking class, based on recipes of this area. Enjoy your creation for lunch, then continue to Pisa to see its incredible Leaning Tower (entrance fee is not included - you can purchase a ticket on at the tower), the bell tower of the 900-year-old Cathedral of Pisa. It is 14 feet off-center at the top because of settling after construction was started in 1173. Your visit of Pisa will also include a sightseeing tour of Pisa's Campo dei Miracoli, or Field of Miracle, to see the Baptistery, Duomo; all fine examples of the Pisan-Romanesque architectural style. Dinner is at the hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
- Day 6 - Montecatini/Afternoon cooking class: Enjoy this morning at your leisure. Spend time exploring the town of Montecatini where the local market stalls sell everything from clothes to shoes, scarves, and accessories. In the afternoon, enjoy your third cooking class. Today's class is making pizza: our chef will show how only the finest and freshest ingredients are chosen to make the perfect Italian pizza. The cooking class will end with a wonderful pizza dinner in our Tuscan Villa. (Breakfast, Dinner)
- Day 7 - Montecatini: Today enjoy a full day at leisure or join us for an optional excursion to San Gimignano & Siena (not included). Tonight dinner is at the hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
- Day 8 - Montecatini: Enjoy this morning at your leisure. Spend time exploring Montecatini, enjoy a spa treatment or just relax. In the afternoon, at our private Villa, have your final cooking class, and toast your culinary expertise with a farewell aperitif followed by Cooking School graduation and dinner. Not only will you return home with lots of great recipes, but your Chef will also have a little gift to take with you. (Breakfast, Farewell Dinner & Cooking School Graduation)
