Below is the Monday departure, 3-night downstream itinerary:
- Day 1 - Depart the U.S. for China.
- Day 2 - Beijing: Upon arrival, proceed to baggage claim and after clearing customs you will be met by the Club ABC Tours representative. China's capital city of Beijing is a sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China. Your Club ABC Tours Guide will meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Dinner tonight is on your own. (Services of a National or Local Guide is included throughout the tour.)
- Day 3 - Beijing: Today your guide will take you on a full day tour of Beijing, including lunch. Tour the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit the Summer Palace, home to China's largest imperial garden. You'll also visit Tian'anmen Square, the world's largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong's Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People. Dinner is on your own tonight. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 4 - Beijing: After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, explore more Beijing sites with your guide. No visit would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall, truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Begun in the 7th century B.C., final additions were completed in 16th century A.D., and were originally built to keep out invaders of the north. Lunch is included during the tour of the Great Wall. You'll also see "Mingshisan Ling" or Ming Tombs, a final resting place for 13 Emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644A.D.). Built into Beijing's scenic foothills, splendidly carved stone animals dramatically line the road on your approach. - Day 5 - Beijing/Shanghai: After breakfast, tour a masterpiece of Ming architecture, the "Tiantan", or Temple of Heaven, built for imperial sacrifices conducted on the summer and winter solstices, and one of Beijing's grandest attractions. Visit the famous Silk Alley for shopping. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai, China's largest city and the former "Paris of the East". Transfer to your hotel. - Day 6 - Xi'an: Today embark on a full day tour of the Provincial Museum displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization. Visit the ancient city wall, the amazing underground tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang; guarded by more than 7,000 life-sized Terra Cotta warriors and horses, the tomb is one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures. Lunch is included during the tour. Tonight, experience a memorable Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
- Day 7 - Xi'an/Chongqing/Embark Ship: Arrive in Chongqing, a city set on a rocky promontory where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet. An important transportation hub of southwestern China, Chongqing retains the charm of a port city of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Tour the Great Hall, General Stillway's Museum, and visit the nearby Zoo, featuring a giant Panda. Board the Victoria Jenna ship to begin your Yangtze River Cruise. Your deluxe, air-conditioned cruise ship features outside staterooms with private facilities, elegant public rooms, a beauty salon and fitness area and entertainment. - Days 8 & 9 - Yangtze River Cruise: Over the next two days, sail along the mighty Yangtze River nearly 4,000 miles long and the third-longest river in the world. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful - you'll pass through deep valleys of lush green hills and narrow canyons with sheer rock cliffs on either side. Relax in luxury as you sail through what is perhaps the most spectacular stretch of river scenery in the world, the famed Three Gorges-Xiling, the longest gorge with great rapids and odd rock formations, Wsu with misty precipices and the "Goddess Peak", and Qutang, whose grand cliffs tower over swirling eddies. Shore excursions include Shennong Stream, where small pea-shaped boats will guide you through breathtaking scenery and the exotic wildlife of Parrot and Dragon Boat Gorges, and either Shibaozhai or Wanxian. - Day 11 - Shanghai: After breakfast enjoy a full day guided sightseeing tour featuring Shanghai's famous waterfront "Bund" area to see the many stately buildings of European Architecture from pre-1949 times, and the Jade Buddha Temple, famous for its image of Buddha in white Burmese jade. You'll also visit the beautiful Yu Yuan Garden with its many halls and pavilions and Old City. Later enjoy a special Chinese dinner. Top off the evening with an unforgettable performance of the spectacular Shanghai Acrobatic Show. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
- Day 12 - Shanghai/Guilin: Take a morning flight from Shanghai to Guilin. Guilin is world-famous for its serene and beautiful Karst mountain landscape. Transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided exploration of the Reed Flute Caves, an underground wonder featuring fantastic stalactite and stalagmite formations that are artfully illuminated by beautiful multicolored lights. - Day 13 - Guilin: Today, enjoy a full day Li River Cruise after breakfast at your hotel. The fabled Li River threads its way through stunning mountains and limestone karst hills. Sail down streams and through lush green valleys, bamboo groves, and hundreds of fairy-like rock formations. Along the way, you'll see daily life unfolding along the riverbanks and perhaps catch sight of local fishermen using cormorant birds to catch fish. Tonight, feast on a special dinner at your hotel. - Day 14 - Guilin/Guangzhou/Hong Kong: After breakfast transfer to the airport for your short flight to Guangzhou. Upon arriving in scenic Guangzhou, enjoy sightseeing of Family Chen's Temple and Six Banyan Tree Temple, a city landmark with its 184-foot pagoda. Take an afternoon catamaran to Hong Kong. This former British colony is currently a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China and will officially rejoin China in 2047. Hong Kong is an exciting fusion of Chinese culture, global business, natural beauty and engaging people. Transfer to your hotel. During your stay, you'll have plenty of time to explore the city, ride the Star Ferry across the harbor and take the tramway to the top of Victoria Peak for the most dazzling view of Hong Kong.
