Itinerary
U.S. cizitens require a valid Passport and it must be valid for six (6) months beyond return date.
- Day 1 - Depart USA.
- Day 2 - Bangkok: Change planes in Hong Kong and arrive in Bangkok, the exotic capital city of Thailand. Welcome and transfer to the hotel.
- Day 3 - Bangkok: Enjoy a half day Bangkok city and temples tour. Included sights are Wat Trimitr (the Temple of the Golden Buddha), Wat Po (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) and Wat Benchamabophit (the Marble Temple). The balance of the day is free at leisure or join an optional Klongs (Canal) tour, featuring a boat ride along the "River of Kings" and its quiet canals, and visiting the Temple of Dawn ($33). This evening enjoy a welcome dinner in your hotel.
- Days 4 & 5 - Bangkok: These two days are at leisure to discover all that the vibrant capital city of Thailand has to offer. Dine, relax, shop for bargains, or perhaps take one of the optional tours available. Highly recommended is the tour of the Grand Palace, former residence of the Kings of Bangkok, and Emerald Buddha ($35). In the evening perhaps enjoy a dinner cruise on the Chao Phaya, or River of Kings ($49).
- Day 6 - Bangkok/Kanchanburi: Depart early this morning for colorful Damnoensaduak Floating Market where you will see traditional Thai lifestyles going back into history. Continue to Kanchanaburi Province to visit the Allied War Cemetery and JEATH War Museum, which is a replica of a prisoner of War Camp containing photographic memorabilia. Board a train to take a ride on the Death Railway along the original wooden viaducts. Later continue to the River Kwai and your hotel in Kanchanburi.
- Day 7 - Kanchanburi/Ayuthaya: After breakfast depart for Ayuthaya via Suphan Buri. The scenery near the Burmese border is dominated by fertile farmland and jungle-clad mountains. Ayuthaya is the former capital of Siam from 1350 to 1767, and our visit includes the Ancient Palace and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the largest temple ruin in Ayuthaya Historic City.
- Day 8 - Ayuthaya/Sukhothai: Travel by road to Sukhothai, enroute visiting Lopburi to visit Phra Prang Sam Yod, a temple with three towers and impressive ornaments as well as the shrine of the Hindu Goddess Kali at the Sarn Prakarn Temple. Continue further north to Sukhothai and its famous Historical Park. Founded in the 13th century, Sukhothai was the first capital of Thailand, and enjoyed a golden age under the King Ramkhamhaeng, credited with creating the Thai alphabet. The superb palaces, temples and monuments of this great city have been lovingly restored in the Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Day 9 - Sukhothai/Chiang Rai: Depart for Lampang and pay a short visit to the old temple Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Continue further north to Chiang Rai, gateway to the "golden triangle", the point in Thailand that borders the countries of Laos and Myanmar (Burma). Arrive in Chiang Rai and check into your hotel.
- Day 10 - Chiang Rai: Enjoy a free day at leisure in Chiang Rai, or perhaps experience an optional boat ride on the Mae Kok River with visits to local hill-tribe villages ($30).
- Day 11 - Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai: After breakfast visit Mae Sai, geographically the most northern town of Thailand on the border to Myanmar. The two countries are connected by a bridge over the Mae Sai River, which allows a lively cross border traffic between the Thais and Burmese (foreigners do require a special visa though). Then continue to the center of the famous "Golden Triangle", the meeting point of the borders of Burma, Laos and Thailand. Continue onward to Chiang Mai with an Eco tour enroute to visit a plantation growing Pineapple, Tobacco, Sweet Corn, Orange, Rice Paddy and Lychee. Arrive in Chiang Mai, nicknamed "The Rose of The North" it is over 700 years old and the North's largest city. Tonight we recommend an optional Khantoke Dinner, a delicious evening of northern Thai cuisine together with a colorful hilltribe show of song and dance ($24).
- Day 12 - Chiang Mai: This morning visit a working elephant camp in Mae Sa. You can see elephants taking their morning bath in the running streams before starting their daily training and work for the day. Afterwards visit a large Orchid Nursery and Butterfly Farm. The balance of the day is at leisure.
- Day 13 - Chiang Mai/Bangkok/U.S.: Bid farewell to Thailand as you fly to Bangkok to connect to your onward flights back to the USA.
NOTE: See itinerary below for Phuket extension:
- Days 13 - 15 - Chiang Mai/Phuket: After breakfast transfer to the airport for your 2-hour flight to Phuket. Here you will discover another side to beautiful Thailand in this southern tropical island paradise. Here the mountain scenery of the North gives way to the sparkling blue waters of the Andaman Sea, lush green hills, coconut groves, rubber plantations and spectacular white sand beaches. Spend the day at leisure after you check in to your hotel. Today is free to relax or you may choose an optional tour, such as to Phi Phi Island, located 1.5 hours cruise from Phuket Island. After lunch, swim and snorkel in the clear waters where natural multi-colored fish can be clearly seen. (Breakfast)
- Day 16 - Chiang Mai/Bangkok/U.S.: Bid farewell to Thailand as you fly to Bangkok to connect to your onward flights back to the USA.
