Guatemala Vacation Packages
Guatemala - 7 Days
Escorted
- Day 1 - U.S./Guatemala City/Antigua: Depart New York. Upon arrival in Guatemala City, proceed to baggage claim and after clearing customs you will be met by your local Club ABC representative and transferred to Antigua. Established as a colonial city in 1543, Antigua "the colonial jewel of Americas" was the seat of the Spanish Colonial government for the Kingdom of Guatemala, which spanned from present-day Southern Mexico to Panama. In 1979, UNESCO declared Antigua to be a World Cultural Heritage site. This afternoon and evening are free to explore beautiful Antigua on your own.
- Day 2 - Antigua: Today, take a city tour of Antigua visiting the Main Plaza, Cathedral, Captain's Place, La Merced, Las Capuchinas, and San Francisco Churches. In the afternoon, visit the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes, where typical Indian clothes are made on looms. (Breakfast)
- Day 3 - Antigua: Today, take a tour to the village of Chichicastenango, famous for it's colorful open-air market. Chichicatenango is a small and stucco-white town, lying on the crests of mountaintops at an altitude of 1,965m. Visit the 400-year-old Santo Tomas Church, where the catholic and pagan rites take place side by side in a truly mystic atmosphere. It is built atop a Pre-Columbian platform, and the steps originally leading to a temple of the pre-Hispanic Maya civilization remain venerated. Each of the 18 stairs that lead up to the church stands for one month of the Maya calendar year. In the afternoon, visit the town of Panajachel and later to the most beautiful lake in the world, Lake Atitlan. This lake is surrounded by twelve Indian towns and protected by three towering volcanoes: Atitlan, Toliman, and San Pedro. Return to Antigua for overnight. (Breakfast)
- Day 4 - Antigua/Tikal: After breakfast drive to Guatemala City. Visit sights such as Las Americas Avenue, La Reforma Avenue, the Central Park, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the shopping district in Zone 1, and business and residential areas. After a light lunch, depart for the airport for your flight to Flores. Arrive in Tikal and transfer to your hotel for overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 5 - Tikal: Today, you'll tour Yaxha (Water-Green-Blue) an archaeological site situated on the shores of the beautiful Yaxha lagoon, where the famous reality show Survivor was filmed. This magnificent Mayan city was occupied for 16 centuries (600BC - 900AD) and has nine acropolis and five hundred structures, including temples, pyramids, palaces, platforms for public ceremonies and dances, as well as sanctuaries and foundations for residential units. Later, take a boat ride in the lagoon to visit the unusual ceremonial ruins of Topoxte, located on one of the islands in the lake. Return to Tikal for overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 6 - Tikal/Guatemala City: After breakfast, visit what was once one of the most powerful and grandest cities in the Maya world during the classic period: Tikal. The name means Lugar de Voces (Place of the Voices). Tikal was abruptly abandoned over 1000 years ago and became hidden and overgrown by the jungle. You'll see the marquee of the Templos y Acropolis (Temples and Acropolis), the Q and R complex, the Central Acropolis The Temples I "del Gran Jaguar", and the Temple II "of the Mascarones", considered the first one among the most important within the complex. Later visit to the Mundo Perdido. After lunch, visit the Silvanus Museum Marley, where you'll appreciate exhibits of ceramics and jade found in the Mayan tombs. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Guatemala City, where you will spend the night. (Breakfast, Lunch)
- Day 7 - Guatemala/U.S.: After breakfast, the morning and early afternoon are free to explore Guatemala City on your own or to take one of the optional tours; Historic Guatemala Trolley Ride, Hiking the Pacaya Volcanoe, Helicopter Tour, Shopping Tour, etc. Later, transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
